Characteristics
Quarzolite Tonachino is a flexible fibroreinforced, single-spread plaster with a rustic finish, for internal and external application, made from acrylic resin in water dispersion, quartz and light-resistant pigments.
Quarzolite Tonachino contains synthetic fibres for good crack resistance. Quarzolite Tonachino is resistant to all types of climatic conditions, aggression from smog, saltwater and sunlight and forms a hard-wearing, protective layer on substrates which resists to the rigours of time.
Quarzolite Tonachino bonds perfectly to all types of conventional render and to old, well-bonded paintwork or coatings. Quarzolite Tonachino gives the substrate an attractive rustic finish and is available in a wide range of colours obtained using the ColorMap® automatic tinting system.
Quarzolite Tonachino complies with the requirements of EN 15824 (“Specifications for external renders and internal plasters based on organic binders”) for internal and external use.
Application Procedure
Preparation of the substrate
New surfaces or surfaces patched up with repair mortar must be cured, perfectly clean, even and dry. Remove all traces of oil and grease and parts which are not well bonded to the surface. Seal any cracks which are present in the substrate and repair areas which are in poor condition. Seal porosity and level off uneven areas on the substrate with a mortar and smoothing compound from the MAPEI Building products range.
Apply Malech or Quarzolite Base Coat on the dry and cured substrate. After 12-24 hours apply Quarzolite Tonachino. To ease the laying of the 1.2 mm, 1.5 mm and 2 mm coatings and to improve the hiding power, the use of coloured Quarzolite Base Coat is recommended
Preparation of the product
Quarzolite Tonachino is supplied ready for use and just needs to be thoroughly mixed with a drill at low-speed. If required, 1-2% of water may be added if the product has thickened. Application of the product Apply Quarzolite Tonachino with a stainless steel or plastic trowel on the dry layer of Malech or Quarzolite Base Coat.
The product can also be applied by spray with suitable equipment. The protection cycle requires the application of one coat of Quarzolite Tonachino. Spread the product in a uniform layer and level with a plastic trowel to create an even finish or use a damp sponge float to obtain the desired final effect. According to the Tonachino grain size and the roughness of the substrate, the application can be carried out in two layers, to reach a perfectly homogeneous finish.
