Tor - Elastascrim Butyl Rubber Tape is a non-flammable butyl rubber based self-adhesive tape with a polymeric textile reinforcement protection fleece. For the bridging of roof sheet lap joints, stabilised cracks, movement joints, small gaps, abutment details etc, prior to application of Tor roof waterproofing and protective coating systems etc.

The Elastascrim Butyl Rubber Tape is available individually or in packs of 8.

Preparation

Ensure all fixings and surfaces are sound, clean, dry, oil-free and dust free. Lightly abrade hard coatings and plastics. Mechanically remove corrosion, chalking, etc. from metal and surrounding surfaces. Treat porous surfaces with a suitable Tor primer/stabilising solution and allow to through-dry before applying Elastascrim FT. Bare metal surfaces should be correctly prepared and primed with suitable materials conducive to the type/condition of the surface and the intended protective system and allowed to through-dry before applying Elastascrim FT.

Ensure (by trial application if necessary) that all contact surfaces are suitable for application and adhesion of primers (where applicable) and Elastascrim FT.

Application

Unroll the tape and cut to the desired length. Encapsulate protrusions (bolts etc.) by placing centrally over the detail then press and mould firmly and tightly into place, working well into small gaps etc and finish smoothly and firmly onto the surrounding surface.

For gap filling, rework the compound into a “rounded” strip then place and press firmly and as far as possible into the prepared gap. Encapsulate the joint further if necessary using Tor Elastascrim BT (SS6000118 / SS6000120) and relevant coatings to produce a fully waterproofed joint.
